Hi Jim! What fertiliser do you recommend? I'm obsessed with these plants and I want to level up my coleus game
I simply use Miracle-Gro shake and feed pellets when I mix up my potting soil & plant. Then during growing season... every 10 days Miracle-Gro General Purpose plant food that you mix in water. Check the product links in many of Mt videos....I bring you to the exact product
I just bought the VP17-3 and I love it so far made tea and coffee! Definitely worth the investment
it takes alot space ideed :D Hi Jim, yesterday, fun story... a 71yo lady, a friend from my dad whos actually been a prostiture her whole life, she came from afrika, and yesterday she told me her mom or grandmom (i forgot) cultivated this aswell, they name it "Vieux Garçon" which means Old Boy
Wow...They've got their own Coleus!!!
They call coleus this way in their creole language in island of the réunion ( Vieux garçon ) i looked it up and i find coleus
infinite apreciation sent your way 🙌 u're a honorable man to donate some of ur gains to such meaningfull organisations, i couldn't do that
Thank you for this very kind word. It's the least I can do to my brothers who were in harms way and have paid a price for it.
I have a King Kong. Coleus. It popped out big and beautiful. I do have a rooting from a stem that broke during a storm. Beautiful plant
Perhaps one of the most rewarding parts of growing Coleus....the ability to take a stem and clone another plant...VERY EASILY!!
Does Coleus Seeds stay viable a long time? if kept in a basement
Yes!! Stored in A Cool dark place ... they are good up to 5 years.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thank you because i ordered 5000 improved rainbow mix seeds and thats a little much :) now i wil buy seeding trays for 1040 seedlings and i'l put two in each hole, i keep you updated whatever happens
Yes you can place 2 seeds per pod!!!
Thank you, i keep you updated, they drink so much i wil need rain-water at some point, i drop my PH to 5.5 to 5.8 they dont seem to dislike it
People make fun of me when i talk about my idea to grow alot coleus, i'm really putting in the work i wil get it done
Hey Ignore them. Also Don't overwhelm yourself as I did by growing too many. I grew 1,000 one year and it's waaay tooo much for me because it's just me. I have over the course of trials found that between 450- 500 is best and manageable.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thank you but i'm still going to giv it a shot to grow 1000 i feel like i have to, to prove to my peers i can make it , & this way i'm sure at least 400-500 survive :)
the more coleus i have the more i could propagate them, i want to come to a point of no return, its harder to go from 0 to 2000 than going from 2000 to 1 000 000, that's pretty much my mentality going into this thing, if it has to colonise my bedroom than so be it :)
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus i liv in a cold climate, wish me luck if i have to put them in front of the stove i sure wil
Hi jim...i have different varieties of coleus planted next to eachother..if i want to save seeds from each variety will they cross pollinate? Or should i move them to save seeds?thx
Yes they absolutely will be cross pollinated. So they need to be well separated to ensure the purest offspring.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus ok..thank you
They will absolutely be cross pollinated. But that's not always a bad thing nor definite...but likely. I love the surprise of cross pollinated coleus
Fantastic job quality workmanship well done 👏
Appreciate your watching and taking the time for such a kind comment
Great Video! Thanks so much!
Hey Thanks!!! Hope it helped you out!!
its actually crazy how that beautyfull nettle plant is proliferic, its just number one of the ornomental plants i feel fortunate i've met that plant because dreams come to me again, i used to be quite desperate for the future
The grease is not bad for you. Just saying. 😊
Well It's not at the top of my Dietary requirements...but it does mess up my Timbrex Decking. I've learned to tweak the temps to avoid the splatter... but my point was to bring out to those who may nit realize that it is a greasy cooking medium compared to traditional Grilling
Just ordered so I’m excited despite the grease. 😊 Thank you!
Hey Overall you will love it. You can cook ANYTHING ! And Today Smashburgers are the craze and this is just what's needed to make em!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thank you! I was really torn on whether or not to get a grill, but I already have a small Weber charcoal grill and I’ve been eyeing these for a while. I really like the Hibachi idea too! Thanks for your response! I appreciate it!
How are these colors collected?
How are these colors collected?
I plant a array of different varieties. Some seeds I harvest from my plants... Some seeds I order from Coleus sellers. I also plant 500 so I get a big variety of Colors
How are these colors collected?
If i was american i would come vulonteer you to sow those 40k coleus seeds would represent only be 80bucks worth of seeds (in the netherlands) im sure its harder to find at that price in america
I'm honored to have you watching and I love your enthusiasm!!
A great display!!!!!! They all look beautiful!!!! Good luck!
Hi Mike!! Thanks . Got a great crop this year!!!
Hi Jim, i want you to sow 40k seeds, this should be ur priority, you need them by ten thousands 40K coleus you need
😆 OH my!!! I sowed 1,000 one year!! Waaaay too much for 1 man!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus that actually my goal now, 1000 seeds, i grabbed the soil from the ground for it, and i wil add torf and sand & sow 1000 seeds, i just have to, (i can immagine it wil be a full-time job) but i'm up for it
Remember Coleus seeds are tiny...but just like St Bernard puppies...they won't stay small
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus sure :) that wil be the struggle especially with my mother that is not very enthusiast about my plan but COLEUS ALL THE WAY, i'm investing every single penny i got in coleus 100%
a neighbour country of mine (the netherlands) sells rainbow mix coleus seeds in bulk 1000 for 1.95€ (super cheap) and they have stock apparently, next couple days i buy 3k seeds to sow 1k and store the rest in my basement, i'm very close to do so, all i need is seeding trays and nursery pots i'm very close to do so end of next month its sowed if i have to giv them steroids i sure wil, long liv coleus ! My sister yelled at me because i took all her soil she was gonna use to fil a pit Man on a mission ☝️
6 years ago i sold my bike featured in the first seconds of the famous song "vamos a la playa" , and i bought cacti 🌵 with that money, i wish i had spent that in coleus cultivation, its just different i'd have been wealthy by now no way cacti comes even close
I have a few Cacti myself...but I agree Coleus are on a much higher level!
Thank you Jim I am learning a lot❤❤
Hi Martin!! Excellent!! It's not complicated...sure there's going to be some learning curve stuff but I try to bring up the major points in easy to follow broad points.... like moderation of Sunlight, moisture and shade
I learn so much from you just walking around talking about your plants! I made the mistake of overwatering and then it got really hot down here in Georgia. So my poor seedlings have really been through it! Most of them are recovered and growing beautifully about 5-6 inches tall now since April. Some are not doing so great. Your channel has helped me so much!
Hi!! Thank you soo much for the very kind words. It's what I hope for everyone who watches. Little by little learning from mistakes or otherwise. I'm sure your Coleys will make it through tge tough weather
Love my Morphous! It's the same color and year as yours. But having electrical problems. Needs new rectifier/regulator and stator. Bought both parts. Wondering if you've had similar issues and, if so, you handled the repair yourself. Thanks and greetings from the West Coast (California)!
Hi ...sorry to hear. Buy glad u got the repair parts . There's no shortage available from Yamaha!! Never had an issue with mine. They are extremely reliable well built. I actually sold this 2 yrs ago...I had a 2022 Indian Scout Bobber built. But I wish I could have kept it. I think these Scooters are Awesome!!!
Thank you for lovely video I am from London UK and first time I saw coleus seeds. I wanted to know how long it will take to get a matured plant from seedilings
Excellent!!! I'm very happy to hear you got something out of my Video!!! Much appreciate your reaching out too!!
Beautiful, Jim! 😁 Ok just off the top of my head “Whimsy Wizard”, “Wizard of Whimsy”, “Fancy Wizard”, “Wizard of Enchantment”, “Hot Pink Wonder Wizard”. ❤️ Whatever you call it, I love it and I want it. 😂 Very strong wind here too Jim. Today it actually blew one of my plants right off the window sill! 😮
😆 🤣 😂!!! Great names Sher' 👌 Hey I giggled a bit in my twisted mind ....I read that it was your PLLLLANTS that blew off.... but my mind saw "PANTS". 😆
I believe coleus wil change my live, if my math is correct, i believe i can do it, next up i have to buy a thousand seeds
😆 🤣 !! Well I can set you up with seeds!! I sell them September thru March on my Ebay listing "JIMS COLEUS"
Thank you :) i'l save to buy some seeds of yours september-march, i'l start from seed soon enough this is my priority now
I wish you plenty of succes, those who hacked ur FB are cowards, i hear plenty of bad story's these days, my neighborhood is very suseptible to coward acts, recently they robbed a fisher-man along the river sleeping in his van, here in small town, its sickening to hear this, even home-invasions and hurting their dog and all, its really really a bad neighborhood i liv in , i wish i could pack it up and leave some thimes
I finally got access to my FB page. Yes it's Aweful!!!
Jim. If Vincent Van Gogh painted coleus they would not look as nice as yours. 👍👍
Hey Pete.... Not bad for a guy with two ears!!! 😆 🤣
Your Coleus are stunning! Thank you for a great info I would like to try growing it from cuttings as I don't have luck growing from seeds.
Thank you. Not everyone wants to nor has the time , skill or equipment necessary to start seeds. And because Coleus root so easily you can enjoy a Quickie new plant with just a snip off a larger plant. It's actually how I got started in Coleus....by snipping a few Coleus I saw at a park ....wet Rooting and growing them.
Wow amazing coleus. Those look awesome. Well done Jim.
Doug your very kind!!
Your plants are looking beautiful Jim.
Hi Suzanne!! Thank you. 😀
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus 😉
You know coleus is still my favorite plant???
I KNOW it must be...because you are one of my Favorite Subscribers...always taking the time to make a pleasant comment 😊
Great video!!!! Your collection of coleus looks fantastic. You certainly have a huge variety in your containers. I'm truly impressed. It is hard to pick a favorite.
Hey Thanks Mike. You hit it!! Sooo tough... I try to get a few new varieties each season too!!
Hi Jim. It got so gusty here today in Union county NJ and it blew my tomato plants so hard that it pulled up the stakes! I've never seen a windy day like this in the 45 years I live here. Maybe during a hurricane but not on a sunny day. Needless to say, I was out there for hours like a maniac resetting big potted plants that kept blowing over. I put in bricks to hold them down but still kept blowing over. Plus, everything was drying out so fast that it kept me busy watering every 3 hours. And i had neglected to get my tomato vines tied all the way up the stakes so quickly tried to do that right after giving everything it's first drink. What a crazy day. I am tired.
Hi Pat. Last night I was working down southern Ocean County GSP... Ive never seen such persistent sustained cloud to cloud & cloud to ground Lightning 🌩!!! It was like daylight....then the Downpours. Had some serious accidents. After I finished this video I placed my Pots under the table and closed the Greenhouse door. We has gusts but I think you got the brunt of it as it hadn't been in the 90's here... mid 80's with a cool ocean breeze. Take it easy tomorrow. You AND the plants will need water no doubt.!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Wow I hadn't heard about that wild lightning.
bom dia pessoal como nos achamos esses coleus são lindos só Deus explicar a natureza
Thank you so much!! Yes Only God has the power to create this Huuuge unknown thing of Life...From microbes to the Biggest Creature and all of the Amazing Plants and how We all rely on one another for Life.
How often are you watering these?
Right now I water them every morning. As Summer ☀️ heats up And the plant grows...I will water morning and a few hours before sunset. I also use Miracle-Gro General purpose plant food that mixes with water to feed every 2 weeks
@Jimswholiestofcoleus Ohhhh wow. Thanks for the info. I just got several varieties of these so I'm learning how to best care for these.
@@Hair4Two Awesome!! I have many videos to help you with everything!!
Beautifull could watch it nonstop How often you feed and water them.what kind of feed
Hi Thanks for the vote of confidence!! 😀 In the Hottest part of Summer I may water twice a day. I use Miracle-Gro General Purpose plant food which mixes into ac2 gallon water can. I fertilize every 10 /12 days. Also maintenance by trimming and old worn or torn leaves. I also keep it a specific height vying for a rounded full compact planter rather than a tall one.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thanks a lot
Lol I came here to ask the exact same questions about those two kinds! What are those, they are GORGEOUS.
They are Vino which are jet black...but only the smaller ones. I think your talking about the Kingswood Torch /Empire Kongs which are the larger. The Pink are Wizard Rose Kongs
Wow!!!! Your coleus look fabulous. You have so many different kinds. I'm truly impressed. I have followed your progress from seeds to this great display this summer.
Hey Mike!! Thanks!! Yes Sir you are one of my Top subscribers!! Thanks Mike!!!
So pretty!! What are the black leaf varieties called? And the pink center and black edge one?
Hi Tiph... There are a few that look jet black on camera...but there's only one that Black....and those are the Vino. The other really large leaf ones that look black are actually an Empire Kong that seemed to be cross pollinated with a Kingswood Torch...I believe. The Hot punk with the black edge are actually Wizard Rose Kongs. They have a very thin dark edge that appears black. But they are Green, Pink a bit of white and some a touch of black.
They're so beautiful!!! I come back every year to ask questions about coleus lol.. They have become my favorite over the last few years. I planted so many this year and have no idea what to do with them. My question is how many per 12in pot to make them big and full, and how many can I put into a 24in pot?
That's Great!!! A 12 in pot is large enough for 4-5. A 24..thats pretty big. Don't always think that the bigger the pot the more Coleus. You can plant 4-5 in a 24 as well. I space them out using the clock pattern...starting at 12.... one on each quarter and 1 in center. There will be room for larger fuller growth in both.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thank you so much!!!
Any time. I'm also on Instagram if you need more advice or have other Coleus questions.
Thank you I am 😊learning a lot I just started a coleus garden
Thanks for watching . Anything you need just ask
Looks awesome, Jim! Congrats on your very first market of the season! Wish I lived closer….I’d show up EVERY Thursday and you’d think I was a cling-on! 😂😂😂 Hope you sell it all and then some. Best wishes, Jim. ❤
Hi Sherry.... Its probably good that your not nearby for many reasons... and one biggie is YOU HAVE ENOUGH PLANTS GIRL!!! 😆 🤣
Beautiful display.
Thank you so much Christine!!

@@Jimswholiestofcoleus i would dare to come on bycicle from belgium to you, through england, norway and canada but that would require paperwork such as VISA i think but i would dare to even if my arrival is middle-winter i would make it to you in one piece, what a great adventure it would be
It certainly would be!! I am grateful to have you following along here!!

Thaaaaaanks!! 😀👍
I re-potted 20 coleus and i was exhausted i can only immagine what its like to have hunderds or thousands
The Enjoyment of it more than compensates for it. Doing this over 10 years I've got a routine down to keep it Fun and not WORK .
Add the word "plant" to ur titles or "house-plant care" or some key-word alot people use i think it would push that algorythm a little u share alot tips and tricks that can be applyed on all plants not only coleus
I ordered a Lord Voldamort from a greenhouse and when I got it. It survived 1 day. It was wet and it was baked .
